St. Joseph’s Orphanage was commissioned by Bishop John Morris in 1908 to house and care for orphaned and abandoned children. Famous Arkansas architect Charles Thompson designed the 56,000 square foot building that sits atop a hill overlooking downtown Little Rock. The building served as an orphanage for almost a century. Currently the building is home to several nonprofits and there is hope of developing it into a retreat center.
